HOW DOES PROFHILO WORK? The product contains one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid (HA) on the market but it isn’t a dermal filler (which is the aesthetic treatment most associated with HA) or a wrinkle-relaxing injection. Instead, Profhilo might be best described as a “bio-remodeller” in that it stimulates natural healing processes within your body. The treatment works in two phases, hydrating your skin and then stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin (a process known as neocollagenesis). As you may already know, HA is a naturally-occurring substance in our skin, joints and connective tissues. It holds 1000 times its weight in water and its primary roles are to retain and bind moisture to the skin and to aid collagen production. This is what Profhilo taps into. HOW IS PROFHILO DIFFERENT TO HA-BASED DERMAL FILLERS? Without going too deeply into the science here, the ingredients in Profhilo are thermally-bonded (i.e. using heat) rather than chemically-bonded, which is how dermal fillers are made. This process changes the composition and use of the HA, making it perfect for hydrating the skin rather than filling smaller areas. As a result, Profhilo offers a runnier, gel-like substance that – when injected – smoothly spreads out and is absorbed within a 2cm radius of the injection site.
